Domestic Water Services Disinfections
We carry out disinfections of domestic water systems including tank cleaning & dosing as
well as sterilization via local injection points.
Chlorine-based water treatment has been used effectively in the UK for over a century to
clean and disinfect water systems, and it is now recognized as a key method of disinfection
in several influential standards, including BS EN 806-5:2012, BS 8558:2011, and BS PD
855468:2015. These British Standards focus on the design, installation, testing, operation,
cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of drinking water services within buildings.
We can also utilize alternative methodology such as direct dosing of tanks with Silver
Stabilized Hydrogen Peroxide, which is very effective, multi-purpose disinfectant that is
effective against an extensive range of organisms.
Newly installed, refurbished, or modified water systems
Chlorination must be carried out before putting a newly installed or refurbished hot and cold
water services system into use, as well as whenever components are added or the water
system undergoes significant modifications.
The procedures for flushing, disinfecting, and chlorinating water systems were originally
outlined in BS 8558, but they are now incorporated into the 2015 British Standards
publication PD 855468.
In the UK, it is also important to note that water utility companies enforce strict requirements
for cleaning and disinfecting mains water systems before they can be connected to the wider
network.
